Good day, I'm writing to report on a very nice weekend at the Denison Homestead Museum in Mystic, CT. We and many others were invited to take part in a small encampment which was a bit of a time-line. Reenactors from the 18th and 19th century were there, as were a few craftspeople and demonstrations. This was much smaller in scale than the one we attended there in 2003 but still very enjoyable. We were there with several demonstrations. Nancy Bartley brought her loom and was weaving linen cloth. Wade Stoner brought period-correct bow and arrows and some targets, and also set up a "hawk butt" for throwing a tomahawk. He worked with reenactors and modern visitors to shoot arrows and throw a tomahawk. I was cooking a hung chicken, and Becky Hendricks and others were also cooking. Also, some of our people just brought some interesting projects. Craig Villaneuve brought a large gourd that he cleaned out to make a container. One of the treats of the weekend was Gina Gearhardt's yellow and indigo dye baths. The yellow consisted of osage and goldenrod. I brought some white silk ribbon and dyed it a stunning yellow. She was also dying fabric with indigo, which, from what I learned about it, is quite temperamental. I think she was pleased; as you can see in these pictures, she has big smiles on her face. It is always a treat having Gina around and it is always a treat to be at Denison. I look forward to being there again and hope to see you there.
YH&OS, Sarah
