This is my friend Clabert as I met him at Fort Ticonderoga June 1999. He is part
Choctaw and part French, sso he reenacts as a French Indian.
He also makes money on the side making by hand
(believe it or not) 18th century fishing hooks and fishing kits, as well as
armbands and belts out of real wampum, and many other items. Notice
his red trade blanket at his feet. Clabert taught me how honest the
people in this hobby are: he leaves things he has made for "sale"
on his trade
blanket and if something is gone, the right amount of money
is been left beyond.
His 18th century business is called
Primitive Artisan,
where "primitive" means nothing more than that he does not make
modern products and he rarely uses modern tools and techniques. |
![]() For those of you visiting here who also are part of the Mohican Press Mohicanland discussion board, Clabert is also known as the French Trader. Here's a picture of Clabert & I sharing a peace pipe at a ceremony On Top of the World at the Mohican Gathering '01.
